LG washers use a direct drive motor and a fairly simple layout, which makes most failures repairable. Tyger River Appliance repairs LG front load, top load and WashTower units in Greer, Taylors, Duncan, Lyman, Wellford, Reidville and Pelham. Call (864) 428-6288 Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.
LG washer problems by symptom
Won't drain or stops with water in the drum. The most common LG complaint. A sock, coin or hair tie in the pump filter, or a failed drain pump, is usually behind it.
Won't fill. Closed supply valves, clogged inlet screens, or a failed water inlet valve stop the washer from filling and trigger an IE code.
Loud thumping or spinning noise. Worn shock absorbers or tub bearings on front loaders, or a worn suspension on top loaders. A loose rotor bolt on the direct drive motor can also cause knocking.
Door won't lock or open. The door lock switch fails and the washer shows dE and refuses to start, or holds the door shut after a cycle.
Smell or mildew. Residue in the door gasket and drain path. Cleaning the gasket and running Tub Clean usually fixes it unless the pump is partly blocked.
LG washer error codes we see most
- OE: drain error, a clogged filter, kinked hose or failed drain pump.
- IE: water inlet error, supply valve closed, inlet screens clogged or inlet valve failed.
- UE: unbalanced load or worn suspension and shocks.
- dE / dE1 / dE2: door switch or door lock fault.
- LE: motor locked, often a jammed drum, rotor or motor sensor problem.
- PE: water level pressure sensor fault.
- tE: heater or thermistor fault on heated and steam models.
- FE: overfill, often from a failed inlet valve or pressure sensor.
When to call for LG washer repair
Call if OE or IE returns after you have cleaned the pump filter and checked the hoses, if the washer thumps loudly at high spin, if the door stays locked, or if water appears under the machine.
Greer water and detergent
Greer's city water is fairly soft, so scale is rarely the main problem. Overdosing HE detergent in soft water makes extra suds, which can slow draining, trigger suds-related stops and leave residue in the gasket. Using the right dose and running Tub Clean monthly helps LG front loaders.
Repair or replace an LG washer?
Drain pumps, inlet valves, door locks, shocks and sensors are worth repairing on most LG washers. A failed tub bearing on an older front loader may cost close to a new washer, and you will hear that before any work starts.
Technician insight
On LG front loaders, an OE code is far more often a blocked pump filter than a dead pump. Clearing and testing the filter first avoids an unnecessary part.
